Going Italian ...

It's Bee Or Wasp time again! And this time it is an all-italian experience: Ape o(r) Vespa. Six speakers who are in one or the other way related or connected to Italy. Why an Italian 'Bee Or Wasp'? Well, why not?

Venue will be again the beautiful and stylish Jugend Space at Taikang Terrace (download a pdf map here), just as last time for Bee Or Wasp #7. An enjoyable place offering a fine selection of wines (and some beers and also amazing coffee), with a great bar to make the perfect hangout between presentations, for networking, chatting, drinking ...

The Wasps:

Everyone familiar with our concept and terminology knows that we refer to our speaker guests as 'wasps' (please also see the paragraph 'What is Bee Or Wasp' further below). And here they are, the wasps who have been confirmed so far ...

Patrick Waterhouse Creative Director COLORS Magazine

Patrick Waterhouse is not Italian, he's from England, but he has been working with Fabrica, the Benetton Group’s communication research centre, since 2006. Today he is the creative director of COLORS (www.colorsmagazine.com) and in this function he is visiting China to present the first Chinese edition of the magazine: COLORS 83 - Happiness.

Bee Or Wasp will be the last talk in his Shanghai program, after TEDx Shanghai on Sunday and guest lectures at Shanghai University and East Cina Normal University, before he and Enrico Bossan travel on to Bejing to show their work there.

Patrick didn't disclose whether he will give a compact version of his TEDx talk or use the opportunity to entertain us with something else from his creative attic, so we might be in for a surprise

Enrico Bossan Editorial Director COLORS Magazine

Born in 1956, Enrico Bossan has been a professional photojournalist for over 20 years. Since 1992, he is represented by the photo agency Contrasto. His work has appeared regularly in international magazines since 1985.

In 2005 Bossan became the head of the photography department at Fabrica, the Benetton Group’s communication research center, and in May 2006 the editorial director of COLORS Magazine.

He is joining Patrick Waterhouse on their 'China Tour' to present COLORS 83, and we are very honored to have him at our humble event.

Sara Corvino Program Director Visual Communication Raffles Design Institute Shanghai

Sara will present UP TO YOU, which is a project-work in progress that aims to address different social issues and put the stress on the responsibility that everyone has to make of our world a better place.

The works presented can be considered as an interesting example of the role played by graphic communication within the context of social and ethical issues and broaden an involvement in a critical discourse.

All the projects presented have been produced at Raffles Design Institute-Shanghai between 2008 & 2011 (under both Northumbria University-Newcastle UK & Raffles College Design and Commerce-Sydney Australia),and have been directed by Sara Corvino, currently Program Director of the Visual Communication Department.

Mirko Adami Creative/Art Director

Hailing from Milan, Italy, Mirko is a designer with many faces -- some serious, some not so serious.

At Bee Or Was he will show three small conceptual projects that he has been working on over the years, besides his assignments as a creative director and art director in Italy and Shanghai.

Nicola Pagnano Senior Architect/Senior Urban Designer Halcrow Shanghai

»Sustainable architecture is not only a construction with a save energy plant. The sustainable architecture project should interpret the site from morphological, climati and cultural points of view.«

Nicola was born in Treviso, Italy. Holding a degree in architecture from IUAV Venice, he shares his time between Italy and Shanghai, active in architecture and urban design. His Bee Or Wasp presentation will be based in the topic of sustainable architecture.

More still to come ...

We are still filling up the program to reach our intended number of six speakers on the bill, so please check back once in a while as we are awaiting more confirmations.

What is
Bee Or Wasp?

Bee Or Wasp is a show case salon for creative ideas from a wide range of fields such as design, art, new media, film, fashion, photography. It is a non-profit event taking place roughly every other month (or in longer intervals if we are too busy with other stuff) in changing venues around Shanghai.

The title Bee Or Wasp is a short form of 'What would you rather bee or a wasp?" which was borrowed from the title of a great instrumenal tune by the late rock guitarist Gary Moore. The metaphor goes as follows: the bees are the audience, buzzing around for inspiration from crowd and screen, the wasps are the presenters, hunting for seven minutes of fame on the stage. Both enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the event and the drinks.

For more information, just send a mail to buzz@beeorwasp.com. This also the best way to contact us if you are interested to be part of the program in one of the next events. One easy way to keep in the loop and even be involved in the process is to join the group Bee or Wasp on linkedin.com.
